******Call for ARTISTS********

Dear Artist,
Here is an excellent way to celebrate SUMMER and support the ARTS! The Downtown Painesville Organization is hosting their first annual event called First Fridays. This event has been created to celebrate beautiful art, fabulous food, and soothing jazz music all along Main Street.

First Fridays will be held June 5th, July 3rd, August 7th, September 4th, and October 2nd from 4:30-8:30.  November 17th will be our annual Holiday Stroll.

Eligibility
If you are a fine artist or crafts person that would like to bring the Arts to the Painesville community, this event is for you! We ask that you be the sole originator of your artwork, that the work be recent, and handmade.

Application Process
Prospective artisans must return a completed application along with 5 JPEG photographs of their work. Applications without photographs will not be considered. If you have a special display for your work (i.e. jewelry case, pedestal, electricity, etc.) please include that information in your application. If you have photos of your display, please submit those with your application as well.

You may scan and return this application with your 5 photos to StellasArts@gmail.com. Your application will be juried by Stella’s Art Inc. Board of Representatives. If your application is accepted, we will notify you by email no later than May 8th.

To be a participant in First Fridays you do not need to attend each month, but it is highly recommended. If you commit to each month as a bonus, November will be free. Otherwise it is a $20 charge for an approximate 8” by 10” space.

Best of Luck! Hope to see you there!

Get to know Laura Wright Cvelbar, Stella's Art Gallery's Artist of the Week...

Picture
Laura Wright Cvelbar - PhotographerLaura has always had art in her blood.  She fell in love with her crayons at age 2 and never looked back.  Laura pursued her love for art at Ursuline College in 1996-2001.  She graduated with her B.A. in Fine Art with Printmaking and Metal-crafting as her specials and dabbed in drawing.  She soon found another love of teaching and pursed substitute teaching and then decided to get cozy with her high school sweetheart and have children.  She is now currently working and teaching art at her local YMCA.  In her spare time she enjoys taking candid pictures that inspire her from common surroundings to God inspirations.  She considers herself as a Christian, Inspired, Dedicated, Energized Mom.

Last look at Julie Hinkel Orlando from Mentor Ohio, Stella's Art Gallery's Artist of the Week.

Textured painting of the insect world! -Well, at least two of our beautiful buggy creatures. I love how Julie brings textures into her work. This is perfect for the person that likes to "touch" art work.

Many of you may not know this but I am an art therapist. Sometimes my training helps me to see art differently and this is one of those times. I truly believe that art can have an effect on all our senses. When I look at these paintings all my senses come alive. My sight becomes zeroed in on the image and I begin to listen to what it is saying. When I see these two bug images I can hear the wings flapping. My sense of smell and taste brings me to summer months and fond memories come floating back into my mind. As I gently touch the textures of the painting I imagine what the soft wings would feel like and feel at peace.

Imagine if you lost just one of your senses, especially sight. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a piece of art work that would stimulate the other senses to then bring the lost sense alive again? Amazing Julie! Thank You!

Stella's Art Gallery Artist of the Week, Julie Hinkel Orlando from Mentor, Ohio

Today's look at Julie Hinkel Orlando's Art! WHO WANTS A PORTRAIT OF YOUR PETS? She can recreate your story. What a fabulous idea...Read what she did for a friend:

This is a painting I did for a friend. Molly is the little white dog, if you could see her face she’d be snarling at Farley; Farley is the black dog with his tennis ball right next to him. Rusty is the brown dog with his ear flopped over as it often does. And Lola is the little beagle dog, waiting to see a squirrel. This is a way to get all your pets in one picture! Want different scenery? Send me a picture and I will see what I can do for you at  StellasArts@gmail.com.  ~Julie

Stella's Art Gallery's Artist of the Week, Julie Orlando from Mentor, Ohio.

Acrylic ArtistJulie Orlando - Artist Julie Orlando - Acrylic Artist
Told by a high school art teacher that her art “wasn’t good enough,” Julie figured she just wasn't meant to be an artist.  So she   pursued a career in science, becoming a veterinarian for large animals. She loved working with the animals on the farm, but she knew that as her family grew she would want to be at home with her kids. Now she teaches college level biological sciences. By chance she came across local art classes and felt a calling to pick up the paint brush again. Julie says painting is like therapy. The stress of life, kids, and job all float away when she begins painting or sketching.  Julie’s art is inspired by the nature around her- Lake Erie, the vegetables and flowers she grows, her animals, and her love of science and comparative anatomy. She enjoys painting with acrylics and drawing with charcoal, pastels, and colored pencils.
